We are pleased to announce that Professor Usha Goswami was awarded the Yidan Prize for Education Research by the Yidan Prize Foundation in September 2019, for her work in educational neuroscience, language and literacy. The other recipient of the prize in 2019 was Sir Fazle Hasan, who has developed play-based early development centres or “Play Labs” to help to educate children living in poverty in countries like Bangladesh.
The Yidan Prize is the largest international education research prize globally, intended as the “Nobel Prize” for education. The Yidan Prize foundation is creating a Laureate body to enable a better world through education. Two awards have been given annually since 2016, one for research and one for practice. The aim is to empower those shaping the education system, build an international community of researchers, and improve the lives of people around the globe.
Usha was presented with her award by the organisation's founder, Dr. Charles Chen Yidan, at a ceremony at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, UK, at the beginning of March 2020. The Yidan Prize Conference Series: Europe 2020 began the next day at Jesus College, University of Cambridge, where researchers in education, including Usha herself, gave talks about their work and educational policy.
